Excellent idea - obtain water using wind turbines. One wind turbine can produce up to 1000 litres of drinking water per day (by extracting the water from condensed air).

"When the killing's done" by T.C. Boyle

Currently reading this novel. It's an interesting look at the issues around ecology and trying to protect endangered species (against invasive ones) versus animal rights - as a biologist / ecologist goes head to head with an animal rights activist.
